Welcome to Elvaston Communities Group
A local community encompassing the areas of Elvaston, Ambaston, Thulston and Boulton Moor.
Elvaston Communities Group was a dedicated team of local volunteers formed to promote recreational events for the benefit of Elvaston Parish and the surrounding Derbyshire villages. Its aim was to bring residents together, help neighbours get to know one another, and create enjoyable community experiences for all.
The area served by the Group included Elvaston, Thulston, Ambaston and Boulton Moor. The first three villages were historically connected to Elvaston Castle and Estate, while Boulton Moor has grown to become part of the Parish Council’s area.
The Group can trace its origins back to September 2009 and went on to achieve charitable status in September 2020. It was run by a committee of trustees responsible for planning, organisation and finance, supported by a wider network of committed volunteers.
Sadly, at the end of May 2026, the Group reluctantly ceased operations due to an ageing and dwindling volunteer base. The local Parish Council was then approached to take over operation of the website so that the Group’s work and legacy could continue to be recognised. Following the transfer of the website and activities to the Parish Council, Elvaston Communities Group no longer operates as a charity and its charitable status has ceased.
One of the Group’s most significant achievements was its historical project on the First World War, “The Conflict & The Countryside.” This remains an important educational and permanent resource for students studying World War One, as well as for anyone carrying out local family history research.
